Space cadets of all ages can enjoy these animated science fiction movies. Robots and aliens both friendly and hostile run amok in each of these entertaining films.
1.“Iron Giant.” In this 1999 animated science fiction movie, a boy befriends a giant iron robot that fell from the stars. Unfortunately, the military wants to eradicate the alien. Brad Bird directed the film, which borrows its plot from a novel titled “The Iron Man” by Ted Hughes. The cast of voice actors includes Eli Marienthal, Jennifer Aniston, Harry Connick Jr. and Vin Diesel.

“WALL-E.” In 2008, Disney and Pixar released this animated science fiction movie about a robotic trash collector. After spending time on a desolate planet, the little robot follows a new friend into outer space. He does find life among the stars, but not in the form of little green men. Instead, he finds a massive ship that contains the human race—a race that has fallen from glory. Andrew Stanton wrote and directed this hit movie.

“9.” Shane Ackers directed this 2009 animated science fiction movie that takes place in a post-apocalyptic setting. As the dark story goes, a scientist embedded his soul into nine rag dolls, who are now in charge of bringing life back to the desolate world. Elijah Wood heads the cast of voice actors, playing the protagonist simply known as 9.

“The Transformers: The Movie.” Before Michael Bay got his hands on the series, the “Transformers” series was already a hit. This animated science fiction movie, which debuted in 1986, pit the Autobots against Unicron, a planet gobbling menace. It’s tough to call this movie is futuristic. After all, it takes place in the year 2005. Nelson Shin directed the action.

“Jetsons: The Movie.” In 1990, the famous futuristic family grabbed their own science fiction feature. In this adventure, George Jetson (or Mr. J, if you prefer) is put in charge of a new sprocket factory, where he uncovers a sabotage plot. The legendary duo of William Hanna and Joseph Barbera directed the movie.
