British Science Fiction Association announces award nominees

The British Science Fiction Association has announced the finalists for its annual awards, for works published in 2010, in four categories, including Novel, Short Fiction, Non-Fiction and Artwork.

The nominees for the Novel category include The Windup Girl (Orbit), by Paolo Bacigalupi; Zoo City (Angry Robot), by Lauren Beukes; The Restoration Game (Orbit), by Ken Macleod; The Dervish House (Gollancz), by Ian McDonald; and Lightborn (Orbit), by Tricia Sullivan.

Nominees for Short Fiction are “Flying in the Face of God” (Interzone #227), by Nina Allan; “The Shipmaker” (Interzone #231), by Aliette de Bodard; “The Things” (Clarkseworld 1/10), by Peter Watts; and “Arrhythmia”, (Music for Another World), by Neil Williamson.

In the category for Non-Fiction, the nominees are “Blogging the Hugos: Decline” (Big Other), by Paul Kincaid; “With both Feet in the Clouds” (Asking the Wrong Questions), by Abigail Nussbaum; “The Wheel of Time” (Punkadiddle), a review by Adam Roberts; Red Plenty (Faber & Faber), by Francis Spufford; and Notes from Coode Street Podcast, by Jonathan Strahan & Gary K. Wolfe.

The nominated Artwork include the cover of Conflicts, by Andy Bigwood; the cover of Fun With Rainbows, by Carlie Harbour; the cover of The Cat’s Cradle, by Dominic Harman; the cover of Zoo City, by Joey Hi-Fi; “A Deafened Plea for Peace”, (the cover of Crossed Genres 21), by Ben Greene; and the cover of Finch, by Adam Tredowski.

The winners of the awards will be announced at a ceremony during Illustrious (Eastercon 2011), on the evening of Saturday, 23 April 2010, in Birmingham, UK. The Awards are voted by members of the British Science Fiction Association and the members of Eastercon.
