Earlier this month The Orion Publishing Group announced that the third edition of the Encyclopedia of Science Fiction will be published online and free to the public later this year.

The Encyclopedia of Science Fiction was first published in 1979 and originally contained 700,000 words; a second edition published in 1993 contained over 1.3 million words. The third edition's beta version will contain 3 million words - titles, authors, illustrators, movies, music and games covering every area of science fiction.. It will be updated monthly, with an expected completion by the end of 2012.
